Renovation Project for Primary Clarifiers Completed at Nenäinniemi

Econet has successfully completed a project for Jyväskylän Seudun Puhdistamo Oy, renovating two primary clarifiers at the Nenäinniemi municipal wastewater treatment plant.

This project extended a previous undertaking, where the first primary clarifier was successfully renovated in 2023.

“During the first clarifier project, we agreed on an option to renovate the next two clarifiers, provided that both implementation and technical solutions met high standards of sustainability. That turned out to be the case, so continuing the collaboration with Econet was a natural choice,” explains Markku Tuohimetsä, Maintenance Manager at the Nenäinniemi treatment plant.

Enhancing the Treatment Process Sustainably

The Nenäinniemi treatment plant processes wastewater from the sewer networks of Jyväskylä, Muurame, Laukaa, Uurainen, and local water cooperatives.

The project aimed to improve the primary clarifiers’ operational reliability and ease of maintenance. Econet incorporated technology into the design and implementation of the clarifiers to reduce maintenance needs and enhance operational reliability.

“The previous spiral scraper clarifiers, which used wheeled bottom scrapers, were replaced with blade scraper clarifiers. This brings significant advantages from a maintenance perspective. The new solutions support the efficiency of the treatment process and provide reliability even in extreme weather conditions,” says Mikko Syrjälä, Project Manager at Econet.

Impressive Results in Wastewater Treatment

The Nenäinniemi treatment plant is renowned for its high treatment efficiency. Thanks to primary clarification, a significant portion of suspended solids is removed from the wastewater before further treatment, improving process efficiency and reducing environmental impact. The treated wastewater meets the highest quality standards before being discharged into Lake Päijänne.
