Nenäinniemi’s treatment plant, run by Jyväskylän Seudun Puhdistamo Oy, treats wastewater discharged into the municipal sewerage systems of Jyväskylä, Muurame, Laukaa and Uurainen in Finland. The plant has been in operation since 1973 and has an average daily flow of 37 300 cubic metres. The treatment is based on an activated sludge process and simultaneous precipitation.
Need
- Demolition, concrete, earthworks and installation of the primary clarifier basin.
- An easy-to-maintain primary clarifier especially suited to municipal sludge treatment needs.
Result
Reliable primary clarification equipment designed to maximise serviceability. As a turnkey contractor, Econet renovated the entire Nenäinniemi primary clarifier basin. Our experts were responsible for the design, construction, and materials procurement.
The new basin was equipped with a clarifier designed by Econet for municipal use. It differs from the previously used clarifier in Jyväskylä in that the blades are fixed directly to the bridge. This significantly reduces the need for maintenance.
- No more maintenance work on the bottom plate wheels.
- Maintenance work, such as greasing bearings, can be carried out conveniently from the service bridge, saving time and effort.
- If the traction unit requires maintenance, it can be removed and serviced indoors.

How does primary clarification work?
Primary clarification removes part of the solids in the wastewater by gravity settling them to the bottom of the basin. The solids are rich in phosphorus. The settled sludge is pumped to the sludge treatment plant.
