Econet signs Memorandum of Understanding in Uzbekistan

Econet, the Finnish expert in water and environmental engineering, has made a significant stride in its mission to promote sustainable water and wastewater treatment solutions for Uzbekistan.

During Innoweek 2023 in Tashkent, the company formally inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Agency for Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Nordic International University, ushering in a new era of cooperation in the field of water and environmental engineering, clean water solutions, and nature conservation.

“The MoU marks the initiation of a comprehensive framework to foster collaboration in creating, developing, and implementing groundbreaking solutions. With a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices, the partnership is poised to be a game-changer in Central Asia,” says Mika Kärkkäinen, Chairman of the Board of Econet Oy.

The partnership is multifaceted, with the involved parties committing to a variety of activities, including joint project organization, technology and knowledge transfer, promotion of innovation, and support for enterprises.

“This comprehensive approach ensures that the collaboration is not limited to theoretical agreements but translates into practical and tangible solutions.”

Finnish expertise to the world

This initiative is further bolstered by Econet’s partnership with Finnish EPSE Oy, with whom they have joined forces to develop sustainable solutions for Central Asia. In May 2023, EPSE signed a similar cooperation agreement with Uzbekistan’s Agency for Innovative Development to recycle industrial wastewater, especially from mines, and to recycle dissolved metals.

“As Econet and EPSE take steps in bridging nations and promoting environmental consciousness, our partnership with Uzbekistan and the unique blend of innovation and expertise from Nordic International University opens up new horizons for sustainable development in Central Asia. The signing of this MoU is a testament to our shared dedication to addressing environmental challenges through innovation and knowledge exchange,” says Kärkkäinen.

The MoU parties

The Agency for Innovative Development under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan carries out a state policy within the sphere of innovative, scientific and technical development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, aimed at increasing the intellectual and technological potential of the country.

Nordic International University is the only international private university in Central Asia that provides higher education services under a license in the Republic of Uzbekistan based on the educational model of the Nordic countries in Northern Europe, particularly Finland.
