Econet and Jyväskylän Seudun Puhdistamo Oy have signed a contract for the renovation of the Nenäinniemi primary clarifier basin.
As a turnkey contractor, Econet will be responsible for the design and construction, including materials procurement.
The Nenäinniemi treatment plant treats wastewater discharged into the municipal sewerage systems of Jyväskylä, Muurame, Laukaa and Uurainen. The treatment is based on an activated sludge process and simultaneous precipitation.
Econet is responsible for the demolition, concrete, earthworks and installation of the primary clarifier basin. The delivery also includes Econet’s clarifier equipment. Primary clarification removes part of the solids in the wastewater by gravity settling them to the bottom of the basin. The solids are rich in phosphorus. The settled sludge is pumped to the sludge treatment plant.
– Design work started immediately after the contract was signed. The primary clarifier will be a new Econet model explicitly designed for municipal water treatment. The basin renovation is expected to be completed by the end of October 2023, comments Mikko Syrjälä, Project Manager at Econet.
The treatment process at Jyväskylä’s regional wastewater treatment plant is highly efficient. According to the company’s website, removing organic matter, phosphorus, and solids reaches a treatment efficiency of 99% (96% standard for organic matter and phosphorus, 90% for solids), and the nitrification rate of ammonium nitrogen reaches 99% (standard 80%).
During the open water season, the effluent is also UV-cleaned, after which the treated effluent meets at least the requirements for good swimming water. The treated wastewater is discharged into the lake Päijänne via a tunnel and pipeline.
Jyväskylän Seudun Puhdistamo Oy was established in 1971. It is owned by the city of Jyväskylä and the municipalities of Laukaa and Muurame.
