Econet Seeks Access to Significant Wastewater Treatment Plant Projects in Kazakhstan

Econet, a Finnish water project contractor, and KazCenter, a housing and communal services development company in the Republic of Kazakhstan, have announced the conclusion of a partnership agreement and a roadmap for the production of equipment for wastewater treatment plants in the territory. The government has announced the construction of new wastewater treatment plants worth more than USD 2 billion.

The partnership agreement, signed on 11 April in Astana, covers technology transfer, the framework for cooperation and a timetable for using Econet’s wastewater treatment technology in Kazakhstan’s future water projects.

KazCenter Housing and Communal Services is represented by Chairman of the Board A. Umerbayev, and Econet by Chairman of the Board Mika Kärkkäinen.

“The strategic partnership between Econet and KazCenter is an important step towards improving water management in the region. Within the agreement framework, we will start exploring cooperation opportunities to manufacture our equipment in Kazakhstan,” says Mika Kärkkäinen, Econet’s Business Director and Chairman of the Board.

Kazakhstan has announced plans to improve wastewater treatment in its cities and municipalities by building 69 new wastewater treatment plants over the next few years.

Targeting the growing markets of Central Asia

The agreement results from Econet’s long-term efforts to penetrate the growing Central Asian market. Kazakhstan is Central Asia’s leading country and largest economy, with economic growth targets of up to 6% in 2024. The government has made water and waste management a priority.

Econet addresses the geopolitical challenges and risks of the business environment in the region through careful preparation and reliable partners.

“KazCenter is a respected, well-known and influential partner. We are honoured to work with them”, says Kärkkäinen.

Equipment manufacturing remains unchanged

Econet is known for its high-quality water treatment solutions, which are designed to meet the demands of target areas from the Arctic to the tropics. Our trusted contract equipment manufacturers in Finland and Europe will continue to manufacture equipment for customers in the Nordic and Baltic regions.
